Writer

Andy Silberman is a writer who has worked in the financial services industry for more than 25 years. As a freelance content creator for financial services firms, he has written newspaper columns, radio spots, print advertisements, newsletter articles, seminars, Web page messages, brochures, and social media posts. Before becoming a freelancer, Andy worked in the marketing communications area of American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise).

Andy lives in Minneapolis with his wife.

Education and credentials:

B.A. in sociology, Carleton College; M.A. in journalism, University of Minnesota; former Series 7 license.

Areas of expertise:

  • Investment basics
  • Investor psychology
  • Retirement planning
  • National and global investment outlook
  • Financial advisor competitiveness

Favorite things:

Andy is something of a “foodophile” – he and his wife, Vicki, enjoy traveling the country to find obscure places that serve local delicacies (although, when the chips are down, he really loves hot dogs and pizza). To counteract all those calories, and to calm himself after dealing with endless aggravation from rooting for hopeless sports teams from his native Detroit, Andy stays physically active with yoga, running, tennis, and boxing. He also volunteers at a boxing gym, assisting Parkinson’s disease patients in a class designed to help their mobility. He loves to read, mostly novels, and he and his wife have recently taken to bragging that their older son, Jake, a stand-up comedian, was named “Funniest Person in Portland.”

Quote:

“I had never been particularly interested in financial issues and investing until I got my first job in the industry – and I’ve been pretty fascinated with the investment world ever since. I very much enjoy explaining investment issues to people in a highly understandable manner, and, in recent years, I’ve also become more interested in producing materials specifically designed to help financial advisors differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace.”
